List preferred public URLs clearly
A sitemap should use the standard namespace and include one absolute loc URL per entry. List canonical, indexable HTTPS URLs and keep optional metadata valid and accurate.
Questions
SiteTend Sitemap FAQ
What does SiteTend Sitemap check?
It checks XML structure, sitemap roots and namespace, required loc elements, URL validity and duplication, lastmod, priority, changefreq, HTTPS consistency, and entry count.
Can it check a sitemap index?
Yes. It recognizes both urlset and sitemapindex documents and validates loc values in either format.
Does the checker fetch URLs?
No. This version analyzes pasted XML and does not request sitemap entries or inspect their status, canonical, or indexability.
Does SiteTend store my sitemap?
No. Analysis runs in your browser, and pasted XML is excluded from analytics.

From finding to verified fix
Interpret the finding
A clean sitemap is an inventory of preferred discoverable URLs, not a guarantee that every entry will be indexed.
Common causes to inspect
- Noncanonical or redirected URLs
- Malformed XML after generation
- Mixed protocols, duplicate entries, or stale metadata
Practical next steps
- Remove nonpreferred URLs
- Confirm each entry resolves successfully
- Submit the final sitemap and monitor processing
What this check cannot prove
The checker does not request listed URLs or verify their canonical, robots, response, or indexing state.
